The song is “Yoshu Fukushu”. Nao Kawakita is probably the most influential female drummer in Japan. She inspired several hard rock and metal drummers including Akane from BAND MAID. Akane has a cover here on YT of the Benjo Sandal Dance by MtH … very early circa 2014. Hard to believe Nao is a 45 year old mother of 2. Just goes to show you never have to stop rocking if you don’t want to.

Yes, Maximum The Hormone is the wildest ride I have ever come across. Love the change ups and surprises. I like the intro with the drummer singing. Thank you for reacting to this video.

Youshu Fukushu, written by guitarist, vocalist Maximum the Ryo-kun, describes his experience being bullied in 8th grade (bullying is a pervasive problem in Japanese society). The video is filmed at a typical Japanese public school and the comic book images come from a manga MTH created as part of a box set to accompany a DVD with this video and others.
In the spoken word portion, Ryo-kun describes how if you pile weight on a scale, the needle might reach 100kg, but if you keep adding more weight, the needle will go all they way around until it reaches 100, and again and again. When you look at the scale, you will see the needle at 100, but have no idea the true measure of the weight the scale is bearing. (A metaphor for his accumulating agony and rage, I guess.) Then the music explodes.
In the very last line of the song, he concludes the only way to find peace and move on is to forgive his former tormentors.
They also have a great video about healthy eating and weight loss, also based on Ryo-kun’s personal experience.

And the best thing about MTH is so many of their songs are as interesting as this, but throw in a dozen more music genres , punk, ska, rockabilly, disco, whatever, they make it into wonderful metal, some of their songs are a lot more “stable” eg Zetshu Billy or Falling Jimmy or Rock n Roll Chainsaw.

You don’t need to hype up for a Maximum the Hormone video. It’ll get you there without the preliminaries.

They have been around a long time and are an inspiration to many Japanese bands that have followed. Thanks for getting to this.

Welcome to MtH! The masters of transitions and genre mixing. And a bloody good time! This is also just my all time favourite song. So good and it never gets boring. For another masterpiece from them I recommend Maximum the Hormone II -Let’s Talk about Menkata Cottelee. Really though you can’t go wrong with a MtH song. Expect the unexpected and enjoy the ride 🤘

Gotcha ! Maximum the Hormone’s are some of the best videos around. You should also check out X-Japan, try ‘Stab Me in the Back’ video from the Blue Blood tour in 1985 (?).

THIS… was one of my favorite reactions to MTH ever… of all time (said in the voice of Tucker from Red vs. Blue)
I really enjoy genuine honest reactions. Thank you. And, a fvck ya! 😆

There’s a lot to discover in good Japanese music and MTH are the most insane band I know. Have you ever heard Unlucky Morpheus? That’s another must, try Black Pentagram or Top Of The M 🤘🕊️

Mate, so so happy you got to these guys. Maximum The Fun. Others will no doubt explain that this song (Yoshu Fukushu) is about bullying, a serious subject, but they still take you on an enjoyable ride. This band has been entertaining the crap out of people for 20 years and aren’t letting up. Please do catch at least a few more of their songs and see how you feel then. Enjoy.
