Maximum the hormone II is the fan backlash song. This one is pretty much the opposite.
This song mainly sings about the band motto and policy. At the time, 3 out of 4 band members were obese and they were proud about it. In their live performances, they always say “Sando no meshi yori meshi ga suki”, which means “I like eating, more than the 3 meals in a day” (there’s an expression in Japanese where we say “I like XX, more than the 3 meals in a day” when we want to express how much we like something). So the song is about how much they like eating “Kotteri (thick and greasy)” food and also about their band name. Hormone means something like “scrap meat” or “intestine meat” in Japanese.
You’ll see how they redefine the meaning of “Kotteri” in Maximum the hormone II, so looking forward to your reaction.

There was actually a whole JPOP song before this song, and you only saw the last 2 seconds of it. That part is called “Your small hand”, and they showed this song after a 2 year hiatus when Nao got pregnant. Everyone was upset because we thought they completely changed their music style and decided to do pop after having a child. They even had a 1 page document explaining why they decided to do mild music. But it turned out that if you read off the first letters off each line in that document, it said something like “FUCK you if you took it seriously”, which only a fraction of the fans noticed. Then the next week, they showed us the second half of the video, which is what you watched. It was SOOOO good after being upset for a week or so. I recommend you watch the first bit too.

About the Title:
Normal you think the name of the Band is choosen plain from the english language. But it is a wordplay, from Wikipedia:
“Horumonyaki (Japanese: ホルモン焼き) is a kind of Japanese cuisine made from beef or pork offal. (…) The name horumon is derived from the word “hormone”, which means “stimulation” in Greek. The name horumon is also similar to the Kansai dialect term hōrumon (放る物), which means “discarded goods”. Horumonyaki has a reputation for being a “stamina building” food.

If you listen to some of their early stuff it is very punk. Check out their song V.A.P. a farewell to their old record label. What was at the beginning was a song to troll their fans. They told them that they had changed their sound after the drummer had a baby. It’s called ” Your small hands”. Actually a pretty catchy pop tune. These guys can do anything!
