Some of the stuff is too all over the place for me. Having said that, I do like a lot of their stuff. Nemophila has a version of Shimi which is wicked. Mayu is at her banshee best!!
I know that MTH has a huge fanbase, so they must be doing something right. Having said that, they”re just not my thing. There are bits and pieces in pretty much everything they do that I like, but overall, I’m not a huge fan. I’m sure that now all of the MTH fans will attack me because of what I said. I said in another review for Asterism that I didn’t think they were quite where they need to be yet, and you would have thought that I killed their dogs. Why can’t people understand that all music isn’t for all people?
I’m not a huge MTH fan myself. Though this song Is one of my favorites. But so many of the Japanese bands I really like always talk about what a huge influence they’ve been on them. So if nothing else I have great respect for them. Great reaction John! Take care!😎🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘✌️🎸
que vum.Monster encantan tus videos. Bendiciones hermosa Celina que Dios te cuide donde quiera los mortalesk abian apreciado tan hermosa mujer
My favorite is Zetsubou Billy

Heavy as Hell!
Another would be Hungry Pride
Hungry Pride is their best in my honest opinion.
I feel you would dig the MTH track “Hungry Pride”. It has less drastic shifts and has a killer riff driving throughout a majority of the track. I believe it is worth taking a look.
I’d recommend the song 「F」for you. It goes hard and doesn’t have any of the parts you don’t like about them. This is an album track though, idk if you do audio only.
I’m really glad you gave this band another chance…again. This song is actually a message from the guitarist/singer, to his junior high bullies and how he decided to forgive them instead of resenting them. I STRONGLY suggest that you react to “Hungry Pride” next, I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.
Dude, I was gonna suggest this song but decided against it when you said you weren’t going to react to anymore MTH. So glad you decided to give them another shot. Maybe try a song called “maximum the hormone Ⅱ – Let’s Talk Menkata Cottelee”
You finally found something on the M.T.H. buffet you like. I’d recommend Nemophilla’s covers of Zetsubu Billy and Shimi as a example of the influence they have had on the J metal scene.
Wow surprised to see you back on MTH and glad you enjoyed it. MTH is a band that does not always hit for me, BUT when they do they are fucking awesome. I highly suggest you do the 2 MTH covers that Nemophilia did Zetsubou Billy and Shimi. Both songs are covered brilliantly and MTH is not an easy band to find on the tubes.
I’ve never heard of Maximum the Hormone before John but they sound very unique and good to
LoL… you’re kidding me. I didn’t expect another MTH reaction!
Hungry Pride should be your next MTH song. Even better than this song for metalheads imo.
That’s my favorite song of them. And the message … I love that it is Ryu’s sister Nao who open and close that song – very strong and emotional AF. I’m sure that song has already helped a lot of kids in Japan.
First time on your channel. This was great to watch. Your first pronunciation was right be the way “fukushu” means revenge – I guess in a way you translated that with your pronunciation 😉
This is a very personal song. In the spoken parts at the beginning Ryo, the guitarist, sets the stage of where we are at – his experience during his second year in junior high (7h grade). The song talks about the long time effects of bullying and the pressure to ‘fit in’ that comes with being bullied but has its roots in society. A lot of bullying in schools has to do with ones outer appearance and Japanese school rules are very strict when it comes to that. So if someone appeares different from the ‘norm’ they are perceived as being troublesome to the majority which gives bullies an excuse that they often keep far into adulthood. In the song Ryo speaks of his thoughts of revenge during this time, of rising above his tormenters one day and making them kneel before him. Now that he is grown up, however, he sees the wider problem and notes that being ‘normal’ is an ‘abnormal’ state of being because it goes against individual behaviour and restricts people on a deeply psychological level. Although he knows that he still feels the repercussions of haven been bullied so he decides to let it all out in a song where he can accuse not only his tormentors but the society that made them. There is a sense of forgiveness in noticing that the children who made his life hell as a teen did so because they felt society’s need of self regulation to become ‘valueable members of the community’ but its not the main part of the song. In the end its also a hymn to everyone who is being bullied that tells them that while the struggle of being perceived (or having been perceived) as different will most likely dominate your whole life, you can still make it through and what is more: That the lives of the ‘normal’ people are not much better for they put chains around themselves.
Staying with this theme, I would love to see you do a reaction to Dir en grey’s “The World of Mercy” some day. I would recommend the live version but its quite theatrical and I don’t know how you feel about that so I will leave links to a live version (this one was held without an in-house audience at the beginning of the pandemic and live-streamed to YouTube) and the official pv:
https://youtu.be/Lj8Ls01Zmo8 (live, with English subtitles)
https://youtu.be/tkdtVvyFO5E (pv with Spanish subtitles – sorry there is no official upload and none with English subtitles. The video quality isn’t the best either but it’s still okay for a reaction I think)
Have a good day, Sir and Thank you for the entertainment!
Now you need to see the Nemophila Maximum The Hormone covers, they are fantastic. Shimi and Zetsubo Billy some of the best cover from Nemophila hands down.
Hey John, I’m glad you stick with them. I know it’s not everyon’s cup of tea but to be honest one of my all time favourite bands, been following them since 2007 and also finally had the chance to see them here in London a couple of weeks ago. To me they’re phenomenal, uncompromising, original, tongue-in-cheek and legit. If you’ll ever get deeper into their discography you’ll see it too hopefully.
This one is one of their best ever. This is like an anthem to all who’s been tormented. So wonderfully crafted musically as well as visually.
Yoshū Fukushū (予襲復讐 )… loosely translated as “The Anticipation of
Revenge”…. it’s about coming to terms with the effects of bullying, which was influenced by Ryō’s (guitars) personal experiences of being bullied in 8th grade (中2 ~ 中に – can see the writing while Nao sings in the beginning and the end). Also shot in a school building, accompanied by images from the manga book specially created for the album. In fact the whole Yoshu Fukushu album’s interweaving concept is somewhat the experiences and effects of school life. Hope this gives you a little more understanding of this song.
A true Epic! (Every song is worth checking out)….
….also “Hungry Pride” is one of their more straight forward, heavy tracks worth considering for you
