Enjoying this a lot guys! Wish I was there… especially loving the reactor vs reviewer talk… often thought about this myself.

I enjoy Howard’s take on songs. He often has some unique perspectives that makes it interesting even though his top 25 BM songs is totally different from mine.

Fantastic meeting guys. Howard’s channel, Baka Broadcast, is a great place to stay up to date on Japanese music. Thank you!

@ 59:59 I think some non-musician reactors often miss the overall arc of the music they are reviewing, but some musicians get so involved in the details that they ALSO miss the point of it too. It’s good when someone knowledgeable can step back and observe the total picture, the complete journey, the overall message; and then drill down into the nuts and bolts and explain how the band went about doing it. Some bands (ie. Band-Maid) are very good at this. They tell a compelling story that gets you emotionally involved, and even if you are an experienced musician aware of the tricks of the trade, it still works.

I remember years ago when Penn and Teller were on Johnny Carson. Johnny was a pretty good magician, so Teller did a close-up card trick for him. Even though Johnny KNEW the trick, it still fascinated him. So, Penn explained how he did it while Teller did the trick again in slow motion (and the clever thing, NOT the same way he originally did it). Johnny still could not see it; he was even MORE enthralled. So Teller did it a third time with the cards face up (and also a third, different, way) and Johnny started laughing hysterically because he was so baffled and impressed.

That was a very interesting meet and a fantastic insightfully talk. Thanks to you three to make this happening. Gaijin Guys and Bakka are wonderful channels for people interested in actual Japanese music. And yes Bakka has a fantastic channel fully honest guy. I already subscribed years ago. Great job, thanks fellows. 👍

The True MRH Reborn

My top two most exciting band to watch right now are TRiDENT and HAGANE. Both are like successors to Band-Maid and Lovebites imo.

And what makes Unlucky Morpheus separated from other VK bands is that they’re include stories within their songs. If you guys listened to their older stuff, basically they were singing songs about some character in some video games. And then they shifted towards more gothic elements stories.

Great interview! I was already subscribed to Baka, and loved his unleashed review. Another thing about the meaning of videos like Unleashed… it’s perfectly valid to take your own personal meaning from it. In fact i think that’s the brilliance of it. We all went through the pandemic or, just in general terms, really hard life-changing times, so you can surely feel differently about the song than someone else and it still works.

Band-Maid takes the stage in a few hours in the same venue that Babymetal held their Legend of 1997 concert

Haha Howard (Baka Broadcast) is much more expressive and humorous in this interview. I’d like to see more of this side of him.

28:00 Lol Howard’s reaction when when they asked him for his favorite Japanese band right now. I was waiting for him to blurt out “Silent Siren,” but the “right now” part killed that answer. (Unless their indefinite hiatus still qualifies them)

01:05:27 I feel what Howard says. Sorry for the rant. Some people might not have listened to enough variety of music to know the differences between songs which is why they might draw similarities. Also good point that the rest of the EP is still a mystery although they said it was World Domination Part 2. I don’t get why people are saying they don’t have any interest in the EP now just because of “Unleash” when there are more songs.

I don’t hear similarities between “Different” “Sense” and “Unleash”. To me there are plenty of unique traits about them. I think Different is alright, I really liked and still like Sense since the first time I heard it and Unleash is in between. Unleash sounds more like a catchy World Domination song combined with a smalll bit of Hibana to me. The only similarity I can think of with Different is the fast high pitched lead guitar with Kanami’s harmonizer, which is the main thing I’m not crazy about in Unleash. I still enjoy the song overall. To me, Sense sounds more serious and somewhat emotional than Different and Unleash, which both sounds more fun. There might be a similarity illusion that all 3 MV’s used a similar dark room that the band plays in.

Some fans like to throw dismissive comments that “those 3 songs are all anime songs and they need to stop doing them because it sounds too chaotic or commercialized.” It’s like they think it makes the song inferior because they don’t like anime. I don’t really watch much anime, but those songs don’t sound stereotypical to me and they can vary across multiple genres. In fact, I think a fair amount of other anime opening songs I’ve heard sound kind of straightforward, which doesn’t sound chaotic to me. I don’t even know why someone thought Unleash sounded too “commercialized” when it has way more technical and progressive details than your average anime opening song or rock song.

I get an annual claim on my FB page from Sony claiming they own a live recording I made of a local Mexican Orchestra playing Beethoven’s 5th.

Sony will try to claim every damn thing.

We hard some rough whether last night here in Scotland……One hell of a thunderstorm..I swear there was some VERY close strikes as there was flashes and claps of intense power that shook the property…I had to go check we had not been struck and were on fire! etc.

Oh!…I’m sure I have mentioned this before..but I’ll do it again just incase…Ryan is the reactor I watch most…Not everything he does..I’ll admit…But by far more than anyone else……I have watched his BAND-MAID reactions more times than I care to mention…..They are my goto for my reactor fix when there is a lack of reactions to watch (those I want to)…And even then…I’ll watch them regardless..I empathise with his emotional responces to the band….He’s not afraid to show his soft side to songs that provoke them…so I know he’s being genuine…and that’s integrity…which many lack….Like since the release of “Unleash!!!!!”…so many reactors have appeared I have never heard of!..Not saying I know them all…But it seems they all claim they are fans yet NONE of their reactions (if they ever done any) to BAND-MAID have EVER appeared in my searches or recommendations……So makes me think , some have seen others get a boost to their channel by reacting to the band..and so are jumping on the “band-wagon”…just for credit…I am a cynical guy…But I feel not without reason…Rant! Rant!..🙂

The song (Unleash!!!!!) is about the bands journey to and through the life changing times of covid (though it is still here, but no longer dominating the news)..Using imagery and past lyrics to tell that story..So complaining about Miku re-using lyrics is just stupid!…If your going to portray songs from your past..the best way to do it is to use lyrics(and or visuals) the song was known for!….Your not gonna write new lyrics to describe something that can already describe itself with the lyrics you already created!.They are nods to their past work, so why wouldn’t you?…If they had not..the video imagery would not have any meaning (certainly less) and so miss the point of it’s purpose….Hope this is making sense as it does to me…I could say more..but I won’t (many are thankful I’m sure).

So apparently, this guy (Howard) is so try hard, that he is ripping off the entire genre of try hardiness
