L’Arc-en-Ciel was the first Japanese and Asian band to have a headlining show at New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden! They have sold 40 million albums, 30 years of career and have filled the Tokyo Dome 18 times! These guys are a living legend.

I saw that Hazuki and Hara chan studied how MUCC got a heavy and loud sound with 1 less guitar than Nemophila. Those ladies always learning. Hazuki even practiced shredding with her hand over the top of the neck after watching Akira from Loudness do it. Hence you see her do it in the Adabana music video and at the Whiskey.🎸🤘🔥

And yes maximum the hormone was the video after Dir en Grey. Those dudes are one of the hardest working bands in the industry. They practice practically every day when they aren’t touring. If you want to watch at total WTF video by them check out their title “Alien”

The song “obscure” of Dir en grey is about abortion, it expressed how the members of Dir en grey hate the careless sex which leads to abortion. It’s an old song from 2003.

Thanks for your reaction.
Interesting associations with the names of Ken-Kenshin 🙂 L ‘Arc-en-Ciel wrote a song for the anime Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin), you can check out L’ Arc-en-Ciel – The Fourth Avenue Cafe (live World Tour 2012). It is also worth checking how HYDE – the vocalist sang in the second band – VAMPS (JPN) – SECRET IN MY HEART (VAMPS (JPN) LIVE IN JAPAN / 2012). 🙂

“Driver’s High” was the theme for the anime adaptation of Great Teacher Onizuka. Mary’s Blood recorded a heavy metal version of the song for their 2020 cover album Re>Animator.

Love you guys.
If you can do, in a future reaction maybe react to Obscure (Tour04 – Blitz 5 days) the old version, and the new version of Download.

Or another reaction maybe Vinushka at Androgynous and Rinkaku at Tabula Rasa-Dum Spiro Spero at Nippon Budokan

On the Dir en grey Obscure video, there another one in which it is longer and has a lot more stuff on it.

英語は分からないけど、System Of A Downって言ってるのは聞き取れた。

前情報なのか知らないけど、マキシマム ザ ホルモンはSystem Of A Downに影響されてるから、音聴いて当てたのなら大正解だよ👍

This song by MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is what kind of put them on most peoples radar. I remember Brewster being turned off by them in the last Bowl I checked out.

This is an interesting concept 🙂 I liked the selection of songs/bands very much and to hear it was someone’s nostalgia setlist makes complete sense to me as some of these bands are the same that started my journey as well.
There was a bit of a theme there with MUCC and Dir en grey, wasn’t there? These songs are basically opposites of one another. “Kugatsu mikka no kokuin” is about an unwanted child being born and tossed away, “Obscure” is about abortion. Both talk about adult responsibilities but while one discusses the consequences of a loveless life the other holds the stance that a loveless life is still better than no life at all. I like both songs very much and think both points are equally true.
“What’s up people” is the only Maximum the Hormone song I feel indifferent about although it’s not bad or anything and there is at least one very true sentence in it…
I’ve never hear of Light Bringer so it was interesting to hear. I don’t like the power metal vocals so much but I recognise she has an amazing voice (!) it just isn’t my thing. But there were some really cool moments in the music that I enjoyed very much.
I still remember when my childhood self didn’t like Malice Mizer because they weren’t heavy enough 😂 Luckily, I grew out of that stupidity when I was around 14 and heard _Bara no Seidou_ for the first time. After that going back in their discography was a joy and very inspirational from an artistic point of view (they had great videos and amazing live shows.)
Ken is a very common Japanese name (there are actually over 30 kanji you can write the name with so it would really help to know which one his parents registered him with. But we don’t, because he always uses the romaji writing of his name). The “What’s going oooon, man?” “They’re giving each other lolli-pops” part of the reaction was golden by the way 😂
I have never gotten into L’arc~en~ciel although they are Japan’s best selling Rock act. Hyde’s voice has just does not appeal to me. But Kyo from Dir en grey is a big fan of the drummer. So big in fact that they started a band together last year called Petit Brabancon which also features Miya from MUCC. Huh. Another theme of this collection? 😄
The song and video seem to be from 1999.
