As everyone expected, MAPPA definitely delivered with Chainsaw Man. This opening is just perfect because it doesn’t spoil anything significant and it’s truly chaotic, just like the anime.

This opening perfectly encapsulates the trippy, chaotic, and feverish feel that Chainsaw Man has, and the countless movie references are such a respectful add-on for Fujimoto’s work. There could not have been a better team to adapt the Chainsaw Man manga. You can see the love and energy put into it

This communicates the tone of the manga so well, it’s dark but comedic, sinister but tender, and chaotic but personal. MAPPA really pulled it off well
One of the best OP’s I’ve ever seen. The music synced with the animation, and how it communicates the tone and theme of the manga gives me an adrenaline rush of hype. I can’t wait to see more.

People love how Denji is entertained by the movie but then pays more attention to Makima, Aki is watching the movie super intensely, Himeno is falling asleep and bored out of her mind, and Power steals Kobeni’s seat! It’s so true to the characters!

Denji and Power dancing is probably the most wholesome thing I’ve ever seen. It gave me joy, especially after a horrible birthday party.
Having a friend who knows nothing about the story or arcs sure does make it exciting waiting to see their reactions. Especially after recognising things in the OP, I can’t wait to see this show all the way through

This op is not just a great expression of each character’s personality, it’s a love letter to tatsuki fujimoto’s love for film with all of the different references to classic films but with the csm characters. Really goes to show how the love for an author rather than just their work can enhance the adaptation of their work. Amazing job MAPPA!

The anime just came out and the op already got me on repeat. It’s too trippy and chaotic in a great way.
This OP is perfect. The refrences from classic film being used by Fujimoto, the expressions and presentation of the characters, Mappa’s attention to detail AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE DENJI AND POWER DANCE

The opening is perfect. The vocalists and band are perfect. The voice actors are perfect. The artstyle is perfect. The animation is perfect. The color palette is perfect. The perspectives are perfect. The transitions are perfect. I love it. I love how the characters walk, i love the half realistic backgrounds blending with the matte colors its all so splendind.
Small detail: In the theater Power chews on the ice from Kobeni’s drink. This is likely because she’s always losing blood thanks to her abilities as the Blood Fiend. So she’s probably got very little iron in her blood and people with iron deficiencies tend to have the habit of chewing on ice.
This one of those openings that I feel are very special. the music, animation and the references are so top notch. I can’t stop listening to it, it’s so good. Mappa really outdid themselves with this opening

Chainsaw Man is neither a sad or happy story, light hearted or dark and heavy. It’s just pure insanity

SPOILERS DONT READ THIS IF YOUR NOT A MANGA READER
0:20 I like the detail of Denji sitting to the far left, with Makima cutting him off from everyone, and when he looks over at Power and is happy to see her, Makima immediatly shuts that down by looking at him, making him redirect his attention to herself, and then feeds him popcorn to keep his attention.
Also on the right, you can see that Kobeni has to pee, Power steals Kobeni’s seat and when she comes back, she tells Kobeni “I’ll give you back your seat if you tie my shoe” so Kobeni crouches down to tie her shoe. You can tell by the facial expressions and Hand gestures. Its subtle but it works perfectly.
Plus this is in character for Power and Kobeni. Power the stupid, childish bully who picks on those weaker than her, and Kobeni the cute pushover.
This is INCREDIBLE visual storytelling, tell tell SO much without words and its great for people who have read the manga and know the characters. It makes me really happy that the creators created scenarios outside of the manga that I think, perfectly captures the characters’ personalities and dynamics.
Its even more interesting seeing all these movie references and seeing how the different characters fit in them, and the positions each character is put in FITS the character. Like Aki making Kobeni and Arai climb on the tables, it makes sense cuz they are the newbies and kind of pushovers. Katana man and Chainsaw man fighting over the well while Snake girl falls in the well as if she was making them fight. Denji polishing the bowling ball while looking at Aki with some disdain.
Its so great to have a good and faithful anime adaptation of my favorite manga where the creators not only understand the characters, tone, and energy of chainsaw man “Dark Yet Comedic etc.” But they create new stuff that has the characters doing stuff they WOULD do. Its icing on the cake considering that Fujimoto LOVES movies, and a lot of his works like Fire punch and Goodbye Eri and chainsaw man are packed with movie references and movie theater stuff in general.
Its just awesome.

As a huge fan of the manga, I had very high expectations coming into the first episode, and In my opinion it was absolutely AMAZING! The glorious blend of 2D and CGI worked great together, and the way they blended the 2D and CGI with some rotoscoping techniques worked beautifully! Hands down the best use of CGI I’ve seen in anime within the past several years!! All the negativity surrounding the CGI and/or 2D animation is baseless and completely ridiculous.
I’m sorry but that beginning bass riff is godly. I bet this will be one of those OP’s you will be able to instantly recognize because of it.

Ngl at the first listening to this op I just kinda ‘not bad’ but after few times listening it’s really grow on me to enjoy and now I really loves the song. Watched this 20 times already. There is so much in this OP.
I love the absolute chaos in this OP.
Especially in the action scene from 0:52- 1:12. Usually in OPs the action scenes are very slick and the characters are doing these bad ass acrobatic moves, but here Denji and Power, are just flailing around destroying everything in sight , as if they don’t know exactly what to do but are just going with the flow and trying to save the day through brute force before finally collecting themselves and coming up with an insane, “super smart” plan, using the golden ball.
It’s very entertaining and very much like their characters.

It is coming from 「そうだ! We’re ALIVE」, a song by a Japanese idol groupモーニング娘(mourning musume).
I think one of reasons he used this line is that chainsaw man has so many モーニング娘 references.

I love how it shows all the chaos in this show even without the visuals especially in the first part it gave me goosebumps.

I’ve seen some people saying they wished the OP was a little more “bonkers”, but I honestly think this one is perfect. The first arcs of the manga were still somewhat normal, so I think this kind OP fits better.
But I do hope that season 2 gets a more “bonkers” OP that fits the later arcs.

At first, I was slightly disappointed when the opening was just J-DnB, like every other anime opening out there, but y’know what? After a couple more times listening to this, I’m starting to feel the energy of it. It’s actually oddly fitting with not only everything that is happening on screen, but also the whole vibe of the show. Maybe it’s just me easily getting into songs after a couple listen, but does anyone feel the same as me? The music starts to feel fitting with the style….
