When I woke up this morning, I didn’t realise how much my day needed an impossibly rhotic, Nao dancing, Wednesday Addams in it. Great reaction as always, good instincts as always.

Biss! You nailed it! Ryo (guitarist and brother of Nao, the drummer) lost a lot of weight for health reasons, and yes, there were many fans who were saying on social media that they liked the ‘fat Ryo’ better. The song is his response to them. It’s the conflict between the part of his mind saying that eating is fun and pleasureable (the ‘disco’ parts) and the part of his mind saying that being healthy is better (the heavy parts that reply to the disco parts). At the end with the megaphone, he is reciting health statistics about how many Japanese suffer from obesity, diabetes, gout, etc. MtH is a band that’s not afraid to take on any topic, and doesn’t take BS – even from their own fans! Ryo had health problems because he was overweight, when he lost weight his fans wanted him to be fat again, that’s how this song came about (that’s the short version of the story, something like that).

Well, since Jeff Beck has died and he was one of the most influential guitarists out there, maybe you should react to some of his songs? And I am not very knowledgable on his stuff, so if anyone has a suggestion please add it 🙂 I mostly know him from one interview where he dubbed Brian May of Queen “The Gov’nor” of pop-oriented-guitar. And Brian later made a song dedicated to him with the title “The Gov’nor” and had him as a “special guest” on that track.

Great reaction.! You are the first person ive seen spot his weight loss after just one scene here on YT, I noticed it right away and was very confused that they got a new guy or something. Later I learned about his health issues and how he had to loose the weight. Sadly people in Japan can become VERY set in their views on some things and loosing his weight made some people feel disconnected. My personal opinion is that they can go climb a tree if they want to cry about something… I love MTH so much and wish I could see them live at some point.
It is around Ryo losing the weight and his related health condition. It didn’t stop him tucking that large bowl of ramen at the end though
