I was addicted to this song way back. Glad to see it here on the channel, don’t know why I didn’t request it as well. Maximum the Hormone have a vast catalog and their style can go everywhere, they can go from death metal to punk rock to poppy songs.
This song was used as the second ending song for the “Death Note” anime, a very popular anime in the mid 2000’s. You can find some of their songs in other anime shows too, old and new.
My profile/avatar pic is also from Death Note curiously. Been my avatar since forever almost (anime ended in 07 so since then).
Glad that another MTH request came up after Koi No Sperm that you did almost a year ago. That group is really special and I think you can only get songs like your first one if you’re already a fan of their sometimes “over the top” style. That’s a band that knows not to take itself too seriously all the time.
They’re often dubbed the SOAD of Japan. Plenty of hidden gems in there along with weird switch ups and humorous takes. I think you could end up adding a few of their repertoire in your playlist along your discovery journey.

Awesome reaction. I would always advise that any other song you listen to from MTH, come in with an open mind. They’re very non-traditionalist when it comes to music composition, lyrics and video direction. They are insanely talented musicians and are probably an inspirations to hundred if not thousands of bands as they basically go back over 20+ years. Maybe more I’m not sure. Actually HANABIE which you loved, they were originally a Maximum the Hormone cover band.
So keep and open mind, open ear and if something’s odd, there’s good reason for it.

The bass was coming through nicely. These guys are hardcore. And the drummer’s out of this world. Nice to see a drummer singing.

The drummer from this band (Nao is her name) has been a major inspiration for many Japanese women as drummer. Akane from Band-Maid and Tamu from Nemophila for examples.
hey david just wanted to let you know Nemophila did a cover to this song and another Maximum the Harmone song called Shimi can you react to both of those please let me know what you think
I can’t verify it at all, but some of the online rumors are that the drummer for this track and Koi No Sperm (Nao) is the drummer in the costume from the “When you’re overqualified for the job” video. But the video of Nyango Star the mascot drumming with Maximum the Hormone kinda debunks it because Nao sings her vocals from off-camera, but Nyango’s drum style is a dead ringer for Nao in my opinion.
But I’m not too much of a music expert, I don’t know if I’m reaching if I think Nao’s style sounds like Nyango Star.

That one has a lot more bass slap like the Chili Peppers and more of a punk feel to it, but it’s one of the many tracks in their genre wheel house, I think you’ll like it too. This one does a few groove changes too, but it was earlier in their career before they grew into their style.
How bananas is the backlog? I really only have 1 request, but if you’re sitting on 1000 songs i don’t wanna do it, but if the list is pretty manageable I’d do the patreon for a little bit.
