Remember *Hanabie* from a few reactions back? They started out in high school as a *Maximum The Hormone* cover band. *MTH* has had a massive influence on the Japanese rock and metal scene, but especially Nao Kawakita. She is the drummer, and has influenced so many young female musicians, including two of the bands you’ve recently listened to. Both Akane, of *BAND-MAID,* and Tamu, of *Nemophila,* are huge fans of Nao. And Ryo, the guitarist/vocals, is her brother.
MTH is my absolute jam! They were my first introduction into the Japanese metal scene back in the mid-00’s and I’ve never stopped loving them, just a bunch of goofball metalheads having fun making music together. If you enjoy the wild juxtaposition then some other fun tracks from MTH to check out would be “Koi no Megalover” and “Chu Chu Lovely Munimuni Muramura Purinpurin Boron Nururu Rerorero” and yes that’s the actual full song title hahahah, it’s basically a series of Japanese onomatopoeia. I’d also suggest “Buiikikaesu!” “Honjo Asami Cutter Knife Dosu Kiri” and “Rokkinpo Goroshi” to get started with them, enjoy man!
Actual title of the song is, “Yoshu Fukushu”which is a bit of a pun on the Japanese words, as the title translates to something like ‘preemptive revenge’ and is about Ryo (guitarist) being bullied by his senpai (upperclassmen) but written with different kanji, the words could translate to ‘review and preparation of a lesson.’
MTH is great ❤and Yoshu Fukushu is the perfect starting spot. Note Nemophila’s drummer Tamu and Band Maid’s Akane both site Naomfrom MTH as a huge influence. Also speaking of Nemo their covers of the MTH songs Shimi and Zetsbou Billy are great, hell Tamu sings the drummers art I. zetsubou Billy as well.

Fun Fact: I don’t know if you caught it or not but MTH drummer is female. Her drumming was the inspiration for Band-Maid drummer Akane Hirose to put down her trombone and start playing the drums in highschool. True Story!

MTH are hugely influenced by System of a Down and even used their video style in the Video for Alien.
Maximum the hormone is an excellent band, I recommend the song A.L.I.E.N from just maximum the hormone, good video.
Maximum the Hormone did two songs for the Anime ‘Death Note’ and 1 song for ‘Chainsaw Man’.

THE SINGER/GUITARIST AND HIS SISTER THE DRUMMER WERE BRUTALLY BULLIED IN HIGH SCHOOL. JAPANESE LYRICS USUALLY ARE EXCELLENT AND WITH MULTIPLE MEANINGS AND LEVELS. THEY HAVE ABOUT 4 WAYS OF WRITING. THE “KANJI” IS THE CHINESE CHARACTERS. EACH CHARACTER CAN HAVE MANY MEANINGS DEPENDING ON CONTEXT. THEY ARE DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH WORDPLAY LIKE PUNS, JOKES AND LITERARY REFERENCES. FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS THEIR “RAP” WAS “HAIKU” ON THE FLY PARTIES. WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF JAPAN! HOPING YOU GET TO WORL AND VACATION THERE SOON!
The rage in some parts of this song is pretty real. It’s about Ryo (guitar, vocals, songwriting) and how he was bullied at school. He releases his anger in this track. Very emotional.
The reactions to Nao being taken over by her inner demon at the beginning is just always awesome to see. 🤣🤘🏻
How big the name MTH is, I think the video for ‘Koi No Sperm’ shows quite well. I don’t know any other band that can make an ENTIRE festival crowd perform a full choreo. 🤘🏻
