Maximum the Hormone – Yoshu Fukushu Reaction and Discussion!
Ryo the guitarist was harassed in school, this is essentially a fuck you to his old tormentors. Note the drummer, Nao is Roy’s older sister and a huge influence on the insane amount of incredible female Japanese drummers, like Tamu (Nemophila) and Akane (Band Maid). Just a warning MTH can be hard on copyright stuff. Also they are incredible live and the Japanese crowds go nuts. Lastly Nemophila did 2 really good Maximum the Hormone covers during Covid. The songs are safe to react to and are done really well, Shimi and Zetsbou Billy.
First thing to say about Maximum the Hormone is that they are batsh*t crazy. My favorite songs and videos are “ALIEN” and “Let’s talk about Menkata Cottelee”, complete insanity combined with fantastic musicianship.
MTH is certainly different and definitely SOAD vibes. I am an old school metalhead and need structure – verse, verse, solos / breakdown, verse lol. 🤘

You cant really label M.T.H. in any one particular genre. If anything they are a punk band at heart and as such they do whatever they want. Hugely influential in the Japanese metal scene.
This is a song by MAXIMUM THE RYO-KUN (Gtr. Voc.) about being bullied in 8th grade. In the beginning he talks about the abuse being piled on and how others couldn’t his growing pain. At the end he says he could only forgive his tormentors. The video is filmed in a typical Japanese middle school. The imagery sliding across the walls is from a manga they created as part of a DVD/CD box set. NAO-chyan (Dr. Voc.) is the band’s founder and leader, as well as RYO-KUN’s sister. There are only a few MTH MVs; watch them all. But I know you will like HUNGRY PRIDE.
For me they are the japanese version of “System of the down”. But with their own flair 🤘
Awesome band. My favorite though is ‘Hungry Pride”. Straight forward metal. Not a lot of change up’s. 🤘✌
Guys… I would like to recommend a band called as Asterism… a three piece metal band from Japan. Incredible talent… I would like to recommend a song called Blaze (LIVE) from Welcome to INFERNO vol. MAX
Took me awhile to get into them but love them now. Try “Alien” next.

If u want heavy heavy then hungry pride is ur best bet. What’s up people goes crazy hard too. Tsume tsume isn’t as heavy with a more early 2000s kinda rock sound but it its one of my favorites. Alien is heavy asf but prepare for a fun transition at the end
I don’t think anybody should say they are educated about metal if they’ve never heard Maximum the Hormone. It’s like never hearing Tool or Metallica.
I recommend Hungry Pride and Tsume Tsume Tsume. Then you can listen to ALIEN.
