Metal Guitarist Reacts: Maximum the Hormone – “ALIEN”

The joke is that Winnie upload (Japan’s Napster) is and has been defunct for years. The meta theme is a band going from their roots and playing from their hearts, to getting big and selling out — shilling for any irrelevant cause as their music gets lamer and tamer, instead of sticking to their true selves musically, and maybe addressing something with meaning — like the nuclear fallout they alluded to right before the first section ended. They will have messages like this from time to time, but always cloaked in humor.
In the end, Nao the drummer was scolding Daisuke the singer about scaring away all the kids over a dead and defunct file sharing program. Told him he looked like his mother when he gets all huffy.
They have a lot of great songs. My very favorite is Yoshu Fukushu.

Got this explanation from a comment in another channel’s reaction to this song:
The end of the song is like three jokes in one. They are singing about stopping Winny, a Napster like program in Japan that people uploaded music for free. It is also some heavy grade trolling of bands who change their style and image to appease the record companies, hence the drastic change and the bad lip syncing at the end. At the very end, the singer starts ranting about Winny, but then the drummer (who is the guitar players sister) tells him that Winny isn’t even around anymore, so why are they singing about it? Then she tells him he’s scaring the kids, and she says to stop making “that face” because he looks like his mother when he does. They then flash a picture of his mom on the screen and as it fades away, he is yelling something like “why do you need to bring my mother into this?” This is brilliant, and once you get the ending, it makes them even more amazing!

If you reacted to BAND-MAID, this is one of their favorite band to listen to. Maximum The Hormone has been around since 1998. AKANE the drummer of B-M was inspired by Nao of MTH to play drums.

You should be aware that despite their chaotic nature, they’re under a label that cares.
This one has a lot of reactions up so I guess it’s old enough they’ve let it go.
But in general this is going to be a band you’ll just want to listen to on your own time without uploading here.

The japanese music scene is something else isn’t it. The western world honestly doesn’t appreciate it as much as they should. Band maid is my favorite but these guys are close
