Maximum The Hormone – wild, crazy, “japanese”, but soo great and always interesting, no boredom anywhere. They don’t care about genre conventions or what you might expect. Other songs are similarly crazy but in another way.
This song is correct in the printed title, but your intro said it was “Alien”, which is also awesome and you should do next:) Nice reaction. Thank you.
Meaning of the song (quoting tomokoko).
Maximum the Ryokun (guitar, vocals) was diagnosed as complication of lifestyle-related diseases and warned that he was going to die if he wouldn’t change his lifestyle by a medical doctor. So Maximum the Ryokun started diet and exercise, lost weight and got well. Fans were totally shocked by his lean body and have been complaining “We liked him FAAAAAT!!” Yes, this is the answer song to such fans.

Yessss Maximum the Hormone are awesome! Also the band who has made my all time favourite song Yoshu Fukushu. It never gets boring. You should totally check it out next 🤘 Also I think the “crazy” will seem sort of less so when it’s not the first time you listen to them. Don’t get me wrong they will always surprise you with their mastery of transitions and genre mixing, but it doesn’t seem as crazy when you expect the unexpected. It’s just awesome then. So hope you give them another chance.
Also for another awesome but totally different Japanese band, please react to Sokoninaru: Lament Moment (opening track to their upcoming album out on the 7th). Prog rock geniuses 🖤 If you like that check out Gou Ni Moyu and Tenohira De Odoru next.

MTH are amazing, you might aswell give up on trying to find a proper structure on their songs cause most of them are just a wild buch of unique stuff thrown in together that somehow works rather well xD
This song is about how Ryo’s health was in some serious bad shape due to his bad eating habits, so he was recomended to undergo a serious lifestyle change, wich he was able to go and lost some serious weight with eating well and exercise (you can really see the change on the clip at the beginning on the girl’s phone as the before ,and then during the video as the after). A part of the band fans was realy nasty and rude tough saying that they prefered Ryo as he was before, so this song is dedicated to those fans.
A interesting side note, the girl that you see singing on those poppy moments with the obese dudes, it’s Ryo sister, Nao, she’s the band’s drummer, she also does vocals as seen here and she’s a roll model to many women making music in Japan, like Band Maid’s drummer.
I’de recomend “A.L.I.E.N”, “What’s up, people!”, “Fukushū”, “Hungry Pride”. You have lods of bangers from this dudes 🙂

I first heard about them quite a while ago becaused they provided the opening and closing songs for the anime death note, don’t know if you are familiar with anime lol. Both songs from the anime “what’s up people” and “zetzuo billy” are straight up headbanngers. Then I started to listen to more of their music my personal favorites are “chu-chu lovely” and “buiki kaesu” any of these songs will provide a great reaction video trust me. Now that I see this video I need to check out their more recent songs man and maybe find myself a new favorite like this one was awesome 😎

Apart from one or two alt-idol bands, MTH are my absolute favourite band to come from Japan, and one of my favourite bands of all time. No single song does them any justice, as good as each track is, you really need to go down the rabbit hole a bit. Been into them since 2008 and they’re just SO good.
MTH is awesome, all their stuff is good, but if you’d like a more cohesive track to sample, I’d suggest listening to some of their older songs when they first came out, still brutal, but without so much of genre shifting, little to none 🙂 byf I live all their tracks

Don’t worry, EVERYONE is confused when the first listen to Maximum the Hormone. The only way is to check out more by them and get to understand what this band is about, how they work, how their music works and how they make their music videos pieces of art in themselves!
The lady singing in the “disco” sounding part is drummer Nao btw (who also founded the band together with the vocalist, is the older sister of the guitarist and also one of the main inspirations for Akane of Bandmaid).
The DJ with the yellow hat in the electronic part is the bassist Uehara.
