METALHEAD reacts to MAXIMUM THE HORMONE | YOSHU FUKUSHU

This song is amazing. Maximum The Hormone is insanely talented for having so many different parts in YOSHU FUKUSHU and to make that work is absolutely mental.

“That was actually insane! Holy shit!” … MTH summed up in a nutshell… This band is just awesomely insane! I would absolutely recommend to check out more of their songs and especially music videos. They always are pieces of art in some way.
You did get the feel of this song right btw. It’s kind of a look into the mind of a bullied middleschooler and about being different. More specifically it’s about the guitarist Ryo with his older sister Nao (drums) also having a part.
For other songs, check out “Alien”, “Hungry Pride”, “Maximum the Hormone II”, … damn, check out anything that has a video lol
Also, if you can find the live-footage from Metrock festival, do that, too because the recording quality is really good and it’s hard to find a more insane and energetic live band on this planet.

Careful with MTH as they do a lot of take downs. I would compare them to Mr. Bungle. Also “fun fact” MTH drummer Nao was the inspiration for Akane from Band Maid to play the drums.

As you can see the 22 year old MtH is a political band where every member is a vocalist and where they like to play with genres. They have many albums. Nao Kawakita is the most influential female drummer in Japanese heavy music, and is the reason why Akane of Band Maid took up the drums. Her kid brother Rio is the guitarist and frontman for the band. The videos are all fabulous and contain lots of shots of the band eating. The fast screamer is the little guy – Daisuke Tsuda

The most schizophrenic band ever…in a good way. They combine so genres over the course of one song it’s head spinning.

YOSHU FUKUSHU is a song about being bullied in eighth grade (中2, “chu-ni”). The video is set on a middle school campus and inside a classroom. The story is told in the manga created for the DVD box set. At the end, he sings that the only thing to do is forgive his tormentors

My favorite song by my favorite japanese metal band 🙂
“What’s Up, People?!”, “Zetsubō Billy”, “A-L-I-E-N” and “Maximum the hormone II” next please 😋

I always considered this band to be a heavy metal, Japanese System of a Down. You’ll see with some of their other songs. This is not nearly as crazy as their music gets. I know “A-L-I-E-N” is another one people listen to alot. The music video gives you a good idea what a show from them would be like.

You will get a lot of requests for “What’s UP People” and “Alien”…”Whats up People” was used as the opening for “Death Note” 2nd season. “Alien”…well..like some of the Babymetal stuff, if you watch it, it will throw you for a loop because it has a story line and many ‘Cultural’ references that may be difficult to understand…but don’t let that stop you!! The Fans will let you know what’s up after you react!! Its fun to watch the crazy confused expression on peoples faces the first time they watch it!

Thanks for this reaction as MTH was probably the 3rd Japanese Metal Band I got into after X-Japan and Babymetal..they are Awsome!!

Oh a note on Daisuke Tsuda’s vocals…he actually had to have surgery on his cords…Bad Ass Growls but if you don’t do it right…it catches up to ya. He is fine now, just had to change the way he was doing it but he still delivers!

Again, thanks for the reaction!!!

MTH Rocks!!

Wow, your eyes when the first scream came in. A bit more and they would’ve probably popped right out of your head 😉
MTH is around since 1998, but only released their first full length album in 2005. I don’t know if they were inspired by some of the bands you listed, but some of MTH’s songs, including this one, definitely have this distinguished late 90s, early 00s metal feeling I grew up with. They also did the opening and ending theme song for the second half of episodes of Death Note. “What’s Up, People?” was the opening, “Zetsubou Billy” was the ending.
I think I suggested them to you under your first BABYMETAL video, together with Unlucky Morpheus and another band I can’t remember anymore. But I also suggested Unlucky Morpheus under one of your Lovebites videos, with a better track for a first listen, because I forgot I already did it before.

I love that you loved this! More Maximum the Hormone? Honestly you can’t go wrong and you’ve been getting some great suggestions. These guys are insane in a good way. I’ll throw down my short list and edit out MTH. Here are a few suggestions:

Unlucky Morpheus – Knight of the Sword
Doll$Boxx – Shout Down
Undead Corporation – Blow

Both Unlucky Morpheus and Doll$Boxx are fronted by the same singer but the two bands have different sounds. UM being melodic speed metal and Doll$Boxx being more of hard rock/funk.

The guitarist for Undead Corporation is also a guitarist for Unlucky Morpheus. Also the drummer for Unlucky Morpheus is a past member of Undead Corporation (and Galneryus). He is featured in the video for Blow.

This is a short list. Hope you get around to these other awesome artists 🤘😊🤘

My all time favourite song!! It has it all: interesting contrasts, masterful transitions, and surprisingly some feels too in the group singing part. It just never gets boring no matter how many times I listen to it.
But then that makes sense coming from Maximum the Hormone. They’re never boring. I recommend checking out their song Maximum the Hormone II -Let’s Talk about Menkata Cottelee next. This band is just pure mastery of transitions and genre mixing. Expect the unexpected and enjoy the journey they will take you on! 🤘

Oh and if you want to check out some more Japanese bands, here are some recommendations…
A crowd of rebellion: Dystopia, M1917, Ill, and Satellitear.
PRAISE: Gostraight 2020, Grow Up, Reason, and The World Is Yours.
mildrage: Armeria, and Silent Spear.
Graupel: Fade Away.
Earthist: Leaves, and Resonating Light 2.0
Azami: Farewell.
Wisteria: Another Vlight.

You just discovered the coolest band in the entire world.
Congratulations.
I like to think of them as “System of a Down on steroids.”
I recommend “ALIEN” next.

Don’t try to put MTH in a music group, because they’ll just smash it away. They can do lots of styles, some times in the same song.

Here are some other Japanese bands you may like.

Galmet – The Metter’s Anthem (if you like chugy, you may like this)
The Gazette – Ugly (tallented brutality)
Unlucky Morpheus – Black Pentagram (just pure tallent)

I got shown these guys back in 2008 at a house party and I’ve been in love with them since. They are absolute heavyweights when it comes to Japanese metal. They’ve been around since the 90’s and have inspired so many Japanese metal musicians it’s crazy. Pick any song, you’ll love it.

Your reaction made my day! I found these guys like 10 years ago…..and had the same reaction. One of the heaviest bands around. Listen to Alien. Fucking amazing!

“I feel this is a very emotional powerfull song”
You are absolutely right. This song is about the anger of Ryo (the singer) at school when kids where mocking him for this weight and all he wanted to do to them.
And in particular the anger that is still in him even today.
