The video opens with a fan (who would be considered FAT in Japan) watching the video for MTH’s Koi no Superma (don’t ask), reading chat’s about the guitarist’s weight loss. She replies that she liked his earlier hefty version. (The title card says basically the same thing.) The music changes to another MTH song, “Chisana Kimi no Te”, with a sarcastic pop J-rock sound, as we see backstage footage of the formerly chubby guitarist eating a pork chop. The puking is from yet another video. As we get to the song, You will notice that the colorful set is filled donuts and other food.
You can find some videos of live performances on YouTube. See the official Koi no Superma video to see their ability to work a crowd.
“Yoshu Fukushu” (Our Merciless home’war’k) is a song about Bohr guitarist being bullied in 8th grade (the second year of middle school in Japan). It is indeed filmed in a typical Japanese school and the characters you see on the screen are they lyrics being sung. The manga imagery comes from a book telling this story that MTH published as part of a box set (some day I will find a used one in Japan) containing a DVD that has this video and the others you can find on YouTube.
FYI, you can find the entire MTH catalog with translated song titles and original lyrics on Apple Music
Let’s talk about the future noodle is generally the translation I’ve heard. This should be fun to watch. Dunno if you know the background: this song is a response by the band to fans that were upset the guitar player had lost a bunch of weight. He had gone through a period of changing his first and exercise habits because his doctor had told him if he didn’t he was going to die.
So, as always it’s a very funny song and video, but it’s about very serious health issues. Just a typical MTH type of track. 🤣
They are incredible live, specially the more “changing” and fun songs (like “Bikini Sport Ponching”, “Koi No Sperm” or “Koi No Mega Lover”), the crowd go crazy dancing, jumping and headbanging all the time. Sadly, there isn’t much of them in YouTube because the copyright are very strict and maybe that’s one of the causes because they are not known better outside Japan.
In Japan, BAND-MAID dru. AKANE, NEMOPHILA dru. TAM, etc.
There are many drummers who have been greatly influenced by the drummer NAO of MAXIMUM THE HORMONE. Both AKANE and TAM started playing drums with their copies.
Interesting bit of trivia: MTH is one of Kobato Miku’s (Band-Maid) favorite groups. They inspired her to combine the cuteness of maid outfits and something more hard and brutal. Nao (drummer) is also an important inspiration for many Japanese female drummers including Akane.
More Maximum the Hormone? Check out Alien, Maximum the Hormone (song title), Hungary Pride, What’s Up People and Zetsu Billy. That last two songs are used on the anime Death Note 🤘😁🤘
MTH is just awsome!
I see all the videos of MTH dozen of times, the reations, a couple of full live concerts (absolute brilliant MADNESS!) so, I will comment before seeing your reaction. Stick with them, maybe the first videos sound strange and let you off balance, unconfortable, even sick (yeah, the vomit is too much), but stick with them. Some reactors do “Alien” or this song and never again do another. Believe me, they are one of the most original, crazy, brilliant band and they have been around for 22 or 23 years now, trolling the music industry and even their own fans. They are big in Japan, but not known in the west, one of my favorites Japanese bands (very different to Band-Maid, Unlucky Morpheus and Lovebites, my other favorites).
I only heard 1 song from them until today and i loved it, i have to suggest it, its called “Zetsubou Billy” i think the translation means Billy in Despair. It was used in the popular anime Death Note if im not mistaken. I have to discover more about them because their approach to writing music seems very interesting.
Thanks and stay safe!
edit: i lied, i totally forgot i also heard this Akane’s (Band Maid drummer) cover from MTH – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPgMD-nPITQ&ab_channel=h0merx
The song you already heard is called Yoshu Fukushu 🤘😊🤘
Some reactors have been able to post reactions to this one without getting the video blocked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdwT5JlH8gM
M.T.H. stand out because they have a truly unique sound. This song is a response to fans criticism because the guitar player lost a lot of weight for health reasons.
P.S. check out their lastest track Hungry Pride.
Correction: Spotify has been updated with English names, but no sign of this song. Do they have their full catalogue on any streaming service?
This is like 20 songs in one. My brain is being scrambled but I love it.
Another 2 Metal Bands from Japan:
Kiba of Akiba – My Personal Computer is dead – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq840XN4-AE
Gotsu-Totsu-Kotsu – Civilizations And Wars – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9dYfkgpqvU
Mate! Whoa! You gotta know how much I have been waiting for this – so much fun from both the band and your reaction, which pretty much mirrors exactly how I feel when I watch them. Importance of the lyrics seems to vary, but definitely worth looking up for a bit of extra engagement. And as for live – from the few videos I’ve seen they have some of the best/craziest crowd involvement that I have ever seen (believe me, and I have seen AC/DC live). Overall they are just the most fun band I have seen on a screen. Glad you got a lot of the same vibes.
Nice reaction! This is my second favourite MtH song. So many awesome parts that blend together perfectly. I think the music video you were trying to describe was for Yoshu Fukushu? Not only my favourite MtH song but just my all time favourite song. Both these songs are just beautiful examples of their mastery of transitions and genre mixing. I just love this band 🤘🖤
Check out this song Hungry Pride by them. It’s a banger.
MTH FTW!🤟🎌
The MV that you have talked at the beginning might be of ‘Yoshu Hukushu’.

One of their best IMO
Maximum The Hormone is the best. All of their songs are different and bangers, no dull moments! Very creative band yet not to many reactors, react to them. Please do more MTH, I suggest maximum the hormone (yes that’s the name of the song) and A.L.I.E.N.
Sadly, MTH’s label copyright strikes almost all of their MVs. You might also want to add SCANDAL to your review list. or the last 15 years or so, they have been the top J-Girl band.
Everybody Say Yeah (live – Osaka Jo Hall) – SACNDAL https://youtu.be/HICS2CM2fqI
It’s a wonderful combination of having fun so they appear to not take themselves seriously, but clearly taking what they do very seriously because there’s a lot of skill and effort put into their songs to make the final product work so well
Yes, the lyrics is important, sometimes just nonsense sometimes sharp criticism of politics, which is rare nowadays in Japan, but anyway,, even for a Japanese, it’s difficult to discern words because they sing in Japanese but as if it were in English and very very fast.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve read on some reaction videos that on some of their songs even natives Japanese speakers have trouble understanding lyrics.
Also after listening to the Japanese scene for about half a year now I think I can cement MTH as my 3rd favorite band behind band Maid and the seatbelts. But I have so much more exploring to do
