12:25 I love the defeat in his voice when he says “You hate Winny too yea?” to the last kid running away

You’re welcome for the explanation, David. 🙂 But the conversation wasn’t with a person off-screen. It was between the drummer, Nao (the lady in the back), and Daisuke-han (the lead singer). For those of you who want the translation I gave David for the dialog at the end, here it is:

Daisuke-han: We will not tolerate the use of Winny under any circumstances! Anything but Winny!

Nao: Dai! Dai! No one is using Winny anymore. And there are so many other things that people should stop doing. So don’t be so loud. And the kids have all left.

Daisuke-han: No longer will I stand for any uploads to…

Nao: No, I get it but the one kid still here looks like she’s about to cry.

Daisuke-han (Turns to the little girl): You agree with me, right?

Nao: Nope! Nuh-uh! She ain’t got a clue what you’re saying.

(The little girl runs away)

Nao: And now the last one has left.

Daisuke-han (At the little girl who ran away): You hate Winny too, don’t you? Don’t you?!

Nao: I said, no one uses Winny anymore! You’re over there looking like Mitsue!

(A circular picture pops up with a lady smiling inside. That’s Mitsue, Daisuke-han’s mother)

Daisuke-han: What?!

Nao: Stop acting like Mitsue.

Daisuke-han: You know, it’s one thing to talk bad about me…!

(After the screen turns white, the Japanese text above the letters MTH says “The End”)

The end of the song is like three jokes in one. They are singing about stopping Winny, a Napster like program in Japan that people uploaded music for free. It is also some heavy grade trolling of bands who change their style and image to appease the record companies, hence the drastic change and the bad lip syncing at the end. At the very end, the singer starts ranting about Winny, but then the drummer (who is the guitar players sister) tells him that Winny isn’t even around anymore, so why are they singing about it? Then she tells him he’s scaring the kids, and she says to stop making “that face” because he looks like his mother when he does. They then flash a picture of his mom on the screen and as it fades away, he is yelling something like “why do you need to bring my mother into this?” This is brilliant, and once you get the ending, it makes them even more amazing!

I download music from P2P sites, then if I like it I then go and buy the album, then if I get the chance, see the band. And once I am in to a band I’ll buy the new CD’s on the strength of what I have heard before. I just like the idea of spending £15 on a band that I have only heard one track of, one that the record company thinks will be popular.

You never reacted to Iron Maiden – Hallowed Be Thy Name live at Rock in Rio 2001. Could you please do that, David? It’s a real classic, would love to see your reaction on that one n’ I’m sure you would enjoy the music a lot 🙏🙏🙏

David: “Now. Have I heard the song before? No. I have not. To the best of my knowledge this does not resonate with me in any way, shape or form. However, there is always a possibility that I may have heard the song in passing and I just don’t realize it.”

Surfing: “Nah. You’d remember.”

For the context.
There is a lot of meaning to this song, but it requires you to understand a bit about Japanese culture and how the music industry over there works. “Alien” is basically a satire of the music industry, the metal genre and even themselves. It starts out with them performing in a warehouse with shoddy equipment, as most metal bands start out, their sound is raw and their style is unapologetic. They sing about the decline of society, people suffering, lies and propaganda in politics, etc. In the next sequence they now have CGI video and better gear. As metal bands get more popular, their sound usually gets softer, they stop yanking chains and get more mainstream to get more fans and popularity since you can’t get on TV with vulgar and anti-government lyrics. Many metal bands that started out wild and sang about the worse part of things usually mellowed out and “straightened up” to become popular. They sold out, basically. They lost their identity to become mainstream, and play the same pop-rock kiddie music as any other band. The last part of the song with the anime girl and the kids represents this.
Winny was a p2p file sharing software in Japan, much like Napster, where a lot of people shared music and albums amongst themselves. Also, much like Napster, the music industry went to war to abolish the platform, and popular bands jumped on the bandwagon, they started vocally asking their fans not to use Winny and buy their albums in stores instead, some of them even made songs to this effect. Winny was shut down permanently many years ago. The argument with Nao and Daisuke at the end is about this. Daisuke screams at the kids to stop using Winny, and Nao tells him Winny has been gone for ages, these kids don’t even know what Winny is, and they could be saying “STOP” to a lot of other things, and at the end Nao tells him he looks like his mother…

How do you think about music streaming service? In South Korea, People don’t use torrents to download musics because it is more cumbersome than using streaming services.

It’s so a political song. Japanese goverment uged to stop the download platform Winny. Beside, at the same time, political power can’t shut down fukishima.
